Should you connect to your router via Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet?
#dailytips #internet
First of all, is the computer in question sitting near the router or is it located in another room in the house? If it’s located within 10 feet of the router, a wired connection offers a number of benefits. As far as connection speed is concerned, unless you are blessed with Fiber to the home both Wi-Fi and Ethernet are likely to be faster than the connection to your ISP so speed shouldn’t really be a factor in your decision.
In almost all cases I would go with a wired connection if there is only a short distance between the computer and router because Wi-Fi signals fluctuate and even go out entirely at times. A wired connection will be rock solid virtually all the time.
If the computer is farther than 10 feet way from the router or if running an Ethernet cable will be problematic, then opt for Wi-Fi. For the sake of convenience, it’s probably best just to use Wi-Fi to connect a laptop even when using it near the router.
