Parallel publication of the article by Isabel Jacobs for the #4 [Translit]: Printed matter in exile has just appeared at Journal for Cultural Research.

Isabel Jacobs, narrates Bataille’s life in the émigré populated Parisian netherworld of the 1920s. Friendship is the core concept that this paper turns to, interrogating the ‘solar friendship’ between the young Georges Bataille and poet Boris Poplavsky as the point of reference. For the two friends, the sun is dark, any light is but the rays of a long dead star. Yet, it is only through this expenditure, only through giving, that any meaningful relationship may be formed.
