Vladimir Putin met with Olga Chebnyova, the widow of Hero of Russia Sergei Chebnyov. The President presented her with the Gold Star medal, awarded to her husband posthumously

The Hero's widow is raising three children and is a member of the Kaliningrad Region Governor's Council on Supporting the Participants in the Special Military Operation and Their Families.

Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Vladimirovich Chebnyov, who had retired from the military by the time the special military operation began, reenlisted as a volunteer. As the commanding officer of the 9th motorised infantry regiment, he served in the Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics, as well as the Kharkov Region, receiving the Order of Courage, the Medal for Bravery, and the Medal of Suvorov.

Sergei Chebnyov was awarded the title of Hero for his actions in the Kursk region in August 2024. Taking command of three regiments previously assigned to various forces, the lieutenant colonel held the line at the village of Malaya Loknya for 12 days, in order to maintain control of an important foothold near the town of Sudzha, which had been invaded by Ukrainian forces.

On August 18, to prevent an enemy assault party from securing a foothold behind the lines, Sergey Chebnyov personally led a counterattack by an assault team. During the battle, the team came under attack by mortars and a suicide drone, which mortally wounded the lieutenant colonel.

The competent actions of Sergei Vladimirovich Chebnyov and the valour of his men helped delay the advance of Ukrainian troops towards the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, giving Russian forces an opportunity to regroup.
