One-liner travel updates

• Lufthansa has resumed flights on the Munich – Paphos route. Flights are scheduled once a week on Sundays.

• FlyOne’s overnight flight from Moscow to Yerevan was delayed by approximately 5 hours. The Yerevan – Larnaca leg was delayed by almost 2 hours.

• From 19 April, Transavia will operate weekly Saturday flights from Paphos to Lyon.

• Three charter operators will fly to Cyprus from Aalborg, Billund, Malmö, Helsinki, Sandefjord, Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger, and Oulu. Tickets are not available for public sale.

• From 31 May, Helvetic Airways returns to Cyprus with direct flights from Bern to Larnaca.

• You can fly to Basel (Switzerland) from 31 December to 7 January for €127. Tickets available via EasyJet.

• Georgian Airways plans to launch summer flights between Tbilisi and Yekaterinburg.

Many passengers often wonder: why is it that a ticket for a much longer journey can cost less than a short-haul flight?

Take, for example, two flights departing from Berlin on 17 April:
📍 Berlin to Larnaca – around 3,000 km, ticket price €263.
📍 Berlin to Miami - around 8,000 km, ticket price from €235.

At first glance, it seems absurd: flying three times further - yet paying less. The answer lies not in the distance, but in dynamic pricing.

Dynamic pricing is a system where ticket prices are constantly adjusted based on various factors, such as: supply and demand, remaining seat availability, proximity to departure date, seasonality and holidays, and competitor pricing.

Airlines use sophisticated pricing algorithms. All seats are divided into fare classes. For example:
- 10 seats at €200
- 20 seats at €250
- 30 seats at €300

Once the cheapest fare classes sell out, the system automatically switches to the next tier. The goal is to maximise revenue on each flight. The system predicts how many people will book, when, and at what price. High demand pushes the price up; lower demand can bring it down.

So remember – longer doesn't always mean more expensive.

Tomorrow, 9 April, Greece will experience a 24-hour air traffic controllers’ strike, organised by the ADEDY union.

Airlines have already made adjustments to their schedules. Flights from Larnaca to Athens with Aegean, Cyprus Airways and SkyExpress have been cancelled.

Flights to Thessaloniki from Larnaca (Aegean and SkyExpress) and from Paphos (Ryanair) are also cancelled. However, Wizz Air has not yet cancelled its scheduled evening flight from Larnaca to Thessaloniki – and it may still operate as planned.

Airlines recommend checking the status of your flight in advance.

Another travel option has been added for those flying between Cyprus and Yerevan. Aegean Airlines will operate flights on this route between 29 June and 4 September, commissioned by an Armenian tour operator.

Flights will follow the schedule below:
- Larnaca to Yerevan: departure at 00:55, arrival at 03:50;
- Yerevan to Larnaca: departure at 04:45, arrival at 05:50.

Flight dates: 29 June and 4 September, as well as 3, 6, 10, 13, 17, 20, 24, 27 and 31 July and 3, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, 28, 31 August.

Economy class fares:
- Round trip: from 350€ (adult), 300€ (child), 50€ (infant).
- One way: from 220€ (adult), 200€ (child), 25€ (infant).
- Special discount applies to flights on 29 June and 4 September.

On 13 April, LOT flight LO172 from Larnaca to Warsaw departed with a delay of over 4 hours.

The flight was scheduled to leave for Warsaw at 16:05, but eventually took off at 20:06. The arrival delay at the destination was nearly 4 hours.

As a reminder, under EU Regulation 261/2004, passengers may be entitled to compensation if their arrival at the final destination is delayed by more than 3 hours.

You can submit a compensation claim to the airline here.

Alternatively, you may seek assistance through services such as Compensair.
