Commemorating Abune Petros the Bishop
"The repression against the Ethiopians for the attack on Addis Abeba & the disruption of the #railwayline had its #heroes. The first important one was #AbunePetros. After a staged public trial for participation in the attack on the capital, the #bishop was shot on 30 July 1936 in a #PublicSquare.
The population was shocked, and the action undermined public confidence in the #Italiangovernment. The excution was considered an act of folly, and worsened the already poor Italian reputation for indiscrimenately killing high-ranking Ethiopian personalities."
