تمام نمودارهای ggplot2 با فراخوانی تابع ggplot آغاز می‌شوند که داده‌های پیش‌فرض و نگاشت‌های زیبایی‌شناسی را که با aes مشخص می‌شوند، تأمین می‌کند. سپس با استفاده از علامت + لایه‌ها، مقیاس‌ها، مختصات و فست‌ها به آن افزوده می‌شوند. برای ذخیره یک نمودار در مسیر دلخواه بر روی سیستم شما از تابع ggsave استفاده می‌شود.
ggplot() ایجاد یک ggplot جدید aes() ساخت نگاشت‌های زیبایی‌شناسی + (<gg>) %+% افزودن اجزا به یک نمودار ggsave() ذخیره یک ggplot (یا هر شیء دیگر از نوع grid) با تنظیمات پیش‌فرض معقول و همچنین کد زیر برای رسم سریع نمودارها بدون اضافه کردن توضیحات و لایه بندی کد R qplot() quickplot()
