The Causes of Abandonment (From Allaah)
There is no doubt that the causes of abandonment are many, and here I am mentioning the most important of them, and from them are:
16 - The Abandonment of a Muslim by His Muslim Brother:
Poem:
And often they promised to support you in the battlefield, they promised, but the utmost of their support was abandonment. (1)
And from the causes of abandonment is the abandonment of a Muslim for his Muslim brother; because the recompense is of the same type as the deed.
From Jaabir ibn ‘Abdillaah and Abu Talhah رضي الله عنهما who said: The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said: “There is no person who abandons a Muslim in a place where his sanctity is violated and his honor is diminished, except that Allaah will abandon him in a place where he loves to be supported. And there is no person who supports a Muslim in a place where his honor is diminished and his sanctity is violated, except that Allaah will support him in a place where he loves to be supported.” (2)
So reflect on how the abandonment of a Muslim for his Muslim brother is a cause for Allaah’s abandoning him, just as the support of a Muslim is a cause for Allaah’s support.
And Ibn al-Roomi’s saying pleases me:
“I took you as armor and a shield, so that you might repel the arrows of the enemies from me, but you became their deliverers.
And I used to hope from you the best of supporters, at the time when the right hand abandons its left.
So if you do not preserve a covenant for my affection, then be neither against it nor for it.” (3)
