π Cosmic Filament
π Current Update
β Oxford researchers identify a 50 million light-yearβlong cosmic filament traced by 14 galaxies.
π What is a Cosmic Filament?
β One of the largest thread-like structures in the cosmic web
β Connects massive galaxy clusters via long, thin strands
β Scale: Can span hundreds of millions of light-years
π Formation
β Forms when sheets of matter intersect & collapse under gravity
β Becomes a long gravitational strand
β Gas + smaller galaxies flow along it β can induce rotation in the filament
π Composition
β Gas, dark matter, galaxies
β Surround & separate large empty regions β voids
π Role
β Acts as pathways transporting matter toward galaxy clusters
β Shapes the large-scale structure of the universe
π Cosmic Web β Quick Facts
β The universeβs vast network of filaments, sheets, walls & voids
β Extends across billions of light-years
β Dark matter forms the scaffolding
β Galaxies cluster at filament intersections β clusters & superclusters
π Components
β Filaments: Highways for galaxies
β Walls/Sheets: Flattened superstructures (e.g., Sloan Great Wall)
β Clusters/Superclusters: Dense intersections
β Voids: Huge, nearly empty regions

π AI & Inequality in Asia-Pacific
π AI Boom vs Uneven Readiness
β AI firms β 4Γ, global AI investment β 15Γ.
β‘οΈ IMF Index shows huge preparedness gaps across Asia-Pacific.
π Digital Divide Between Countries
β Japan, South Korea = high readiness (skills, infrastructure, innovation).
β India, Pakistan, Afghanistan = low readiness due to weaker digital access + human capital.
π Inequality Shapes AI Adoption
β Richer nations adopt AI faster; poorer nations risk falling further behind.
β‘οΈ High income inequality β low ability to benefit from emerging tech.
π Digital Access Gaps
β Internet usage very high in Malaysia/Japan; low in South Asia & Pakistan.
β‘οΈ Ruralβurban digital skill divide persists, esp. basic spreadsheet skills.
π Gendered Impact
β Women face greater risk of AI-driven job disruption.
β‘οΈ Gender gaps in tech access worsen inequality.
π Soft Infrastructure Deficit
β Many countries lack AI laws: data protection, algorithmic accountability, privacy norms.
β‘οΈ Weak governance β higher bias, exclusion.
π Inclusive AI Needed
β Marginalised groups must be part of system design.
β‘οΈ Exclusion β biased outcomes + deepened socio-economic divides.
π Policy Imperatives
β Build digital infra + basic skills.
β Bridge ruralβurban + gender gaps.
β Enact AI safety & data protection laws.
β‘οΈ Ensure small businesses & low-income groups access AI tools.
π Relevance for India
β India in mid-tier readiness; large social & regional disparities.
β‘οΈ Must close digital-skill gaps, widen internet access, regulate AI responsibly to prevent inequality.
π Mains Question
Assess how AI adoption could widen socio-economic inequalities in Asia-Pacific. What policy measures are essential for inclusive AI readiness in India?

π Googleβs βQuantum Echoesβ & Q-Day
π What Google Achieved
β Using a 65-qubit Willow processor, researchers observed how quantum information spreads and refocuses inside entangled systems β called Quantum Echoes.
β‘οΈ This is a physics breakthrough, not a cryptographic one.
π What the Experiment Really Is
β Unlike 2019βs βquantum supremacy,β this was not about speed.
β‘οΈ Scientists sent a quantum βpoke,β watched the disturbance evolve, and detected its echo β improving understanding of quantum behaviour.
π What It Means for Encryption
β Does NOT bring Q-day closer.
β‘οΈ RSA-2048 cracking would require millions of logical qubits β decades away.
Current machines (like Willow) only have tens of qubits.
π Why Q-Day Still Far
β To break RSA, a fault-tolerant quantum computer must run Shorβs algorithm at huge scale β millions of qubits + error-correction.
β Todayβs devices barely reach a few hundred noisy qubits.
π Quantum Echoes β Cryptographic Threat
β‘οΈ It studies physical processes (information re-emerging in entangled states), unlike Shorβs algorithm which seeks computational advantage.
β‘οΈ Shows scientific reproducibility, not decryption capability.
π But Why the Concern?
β οΈ Some actors may store encrypted data now to decrypt later (βharvest now, decrypt laterβ).
β‘οΈ Regulators urge early transition to quantum-safe encryption (PQC) like CRYSTALS-Kyber & Dilithium.
π Core Message
Quantum Echoes is a major physics insight, not a step toward breaking encryption β Q-day remains theoretical and distant.
π Mains Question
Differentiate between advances in quantum physics (like Quantum Echoes) and cryptography-relevant quantum computing. Why does Q-day remain far off?
