Доллар — это название, которое используется для обозначения валюты в 36 странах мира. Впервые термин «доллар» появился в XVI веке в Шотландии: так называли «доллар с мечом» (Sword Dollar) — монету номиналом 30 шиллингов, выпускавшуюся в 1567–1571 годах.
Символ $ — это типографский знак, включённый в стандарт Unicode в группу «Управляющие символы C0 и основная латиница» (код — U+0024).
