Buddhist monk, political prisoner, Bachelor of Law, famous artist
It was with him, such a multifaceted, bright, and somewhat contradictory artist, that we were lucky enough to meet during the Christmas holidays.
Htein Lin is a Burmese artist, performer and activist, whose works intertwine protest against the military regime of Myanmar, Buddhism, and the theme of human rights.
Being in prison for participating in the anti-government movement, the artist created more than 1,000 works during his 6.5-year term. Htein Lin worked in the monoprint technique, using fingers, a toothpaste cap, lighters, pieces of glass, etc. as brushes (which were banned in prison). His canvas was a white prison uniform. Monoprint is still one of the artist's favorite techniques.
The installation Thabeik Hmauq consists of 108 begging bowls, put together in the form of Buddhist rosaries. This installation is a symbol of the religious foundations, and divisions of Burmese society.
Soap Blocked is an installation of soap pieces laid out in the shape of Myanmar and symbolizing prison cells with people locked in them. It is literally a monument to the collective helplessness of the Burmese people.
The famous Show of Hands project is in a "constant" process. Htein Lin has been making plaster casts of the hands of political prisoners in Myanmar for several years, talking about human rights violations in his native country.
The paintings created by the artist in custody were transferred for preservation to the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam.
On January 13, the "Solo Show" Htein's Reincarceration opened in Singapore.
If any of you, friends, will be in Singapore in the next 2 weeks, be sure to visit the exhibition of this original artist!

The painting by Gustav Klimt, titled Portrait of Fraulein Lieser, which disappeared almost a hundred years ago, was found in Austria.
The last time the artwork was seen was in 1925. As it turned out, the painting was kept quietly in a private collection all this time.
Everything is fine in this news!

The Birth of Venus
When, if not on these days, to mention the mesmerizing painting by Sandro Botticelli depicting the newly born goddess of love?
And this post should have been completely different, but reality has made its own adjustments:
The other day, in Florence, a group of eco-activists staged another action, taping photos of the consequences of natural disasters (presumably as a result of unreasonable human activity) on innocent Venus.
Fortunately, the masterpiece is displayed under protective glass, and according to the preliminary opinion of experts, the painting was not damaged.
The attackers were detained, and face a large fine — from €60,000 — in accordance with a recently adopted law in Italy.
We would be too grateful to you, friends, if you could explain to us exactly how cultural heritage is responsible for global warming, as well environmental pollution.

Venice, Venice! ❤️
Friends, do you know such an expression: "To see Paris and die"?
So, perhaps it would be worth rephrasing it into "to see Venice and die."
This amazing city (once the Republic of Venice) is in itself one of the greatest works of art. Built on the water, hosting carnivals, resounding with the singing of gondoliers... A ghost town, a dream town, a palazzo town!
Two months later, on April 20, one of the main art exhibitions of the planet, the Venice Biennale 2024, will open here.
And we will return to the story of this celebration of modern art later...

Art Dubai 2024
Not only can the Old World boast of significant events in the art world this spring - Art Dubai 2024 will be held from March 1 to March 3.
Since March 2007, this international art fair has been held annually, and its patron is the Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
120 different shows of all types of contemporary art will be held at the Art Dubai 2024 venues, with more than 90 galleries, from 40 countries, participating.
Exhibitions, master classes, an art forum, a chic children's program... It is easier, perhaps, to list what Art Dubai 2024 will not be able to offer its visitors this year😅
We will be the audience at this event, and a report from there is on us. Of course, you too are invited😇

Camera Obscura
With its help, Renaissance artists created masterpieces that were striking in their realism.
This simple optical device allowed the creators to strictly observe the proportions, deal with perspective competently, and work out the details of the canvases qualitatively.
In fact, the obscura is the prototype of a modern camera. Hence, in fact, the realism😉
