Various -isms & other art directions

How many art directions could you name without resorting to Google, friends? 🤔

Classicism, realism, expressionism, impressionism, cubism, avant-garde, modernism...
You've probably met these names, one way or another.

And what about quadraturism, vorticism, bambocciata, leonardism, divisionism, churrigueresco, tonalism, macchiaioli, pintoresco, vedutism?

Well, yeah, and there is such a thing, too 🙂

Modern "traditional" art in NFT collections

By "traditional art" here we do not mean paintings in the classical style, but works of art from famous, currently living artists, existing in the material world 😉

Michael Kagan is an American artist who exhibits in New York, Miami, Seattle, Brussels and Hong Kong. His works can be found here. Physical canvases are stored in the Hall Art Foundation (USA), the MAKI Gallery (Japan) and others.

Not so long ago, Kagan created 5 NFT exclusively for auction, which were immediately sold out!

One of the tokens from Kagan (see the pic) is now on display for $108,888. It is noteworthy that the buyer will also receive physical work, along with NFT.

Takashi Murakami is a Japanese artist, one of the main adherents of the idea of art as a brand, collaborated with Louis Vuitton.

In 2008, his sculpture "My Lonesome Cowboy" (see the pic) was sold at Sotheby's for $15,200,000.

The CLONE X - X TAKASHI MURAKAMI NFT collection collected $380.830. The average price of a token from Murakami is $4,400.

"Bringing art to the masses" becomes easier. And there is even a chance to make good money in the virtual world. Still, demand and income directly depend on the familiarity of the artist's personal brand, and his recognition in the material world.

The Last Supper (L'Ultima Cena)

This masterpiece of Leonardo da Vinci's brush began to collapse, even during its creation. As an experiment, the master painted with egg white-based paint, on a wall covered with oil lead whitewash 🎨

It was exactly whitewash that provoked a chemical reaction.

The mural has been restored numerous times. The last major work on the restoration of the art piece lasted 21 (!) years and was completed in 1999.

Everyone knows them, and no one knows!

Hiding behind a pseudonym is almost like wearing a mask all the time. People feel your presence, they see you. But they don't know who you are. They won't recognize you.

It is difficult to say who, and when, first started this game, but many artists famous for centuries "worked undercover":
🟡Masaccio - Tommaso di ser Giovanni di Guidi,
🟡Masolino da Panicale — Tomasso di Cristoforo Fini,
🟡Sandro Botticelli — Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi,
🟡El Greco - Domenikos Theotokopoulos.

And the same technique is masterfully used by modern artists.

Benksi was most likely born in Bristol, and is now probably 49 years old.

We know more about JR, a French photographer and artist. He was born in February, 1983, and there are even photos of him on the web (although he always wears a hat, and black glasses, there).

Their creations are known all over the world. Still, the world does not know the real names of the artists, but only builds versions.

Yeah, at times, we wouldn’t mind participating in this game ...😉

Behold the Root

The creativity of each artist is a reflection of his Soul, and his thoughts.

As for the audience, what is on the canvas is primary. And the image of the artist can be imagined, seen, and understood through his work. But on the contrary - not always.

Our faces are the last thing to pay attention to. What is important is what we see, feel, and want to convey to you.

The key thing is our works, and the meaning we put into them. We don't want anything to distract attention from the visual of our art, as well as the ideas that we fill our works with, and share, with our audience.

Pretty soon, in just a couple of days, you will be able to see everything with your own eyes...

L'ANDART23

Concept2048 is back at the Biennale! "The Mountains in Circulation” takes place in Andorra, from September 15 to November 15.

This is the fifth LANDWARD biennale, and this time it is located on the central streets, as well as on the territory of the former CATSA tobacco factory in the city of Sant Julià de Lòria.

The consequences of economic and energy crises, climate change, and the search for new ways to interact with nature are the leitmotif of "The Mountains in Circulation.”

We are presenting our new project “Whisper of the Mountains” in Andorra.
And we are about to tell you about it in our next post. Stay tuned!..😉

Whisper of the Mountains

What are the mountains whispering about, impartial witnesses of the history of the Earth? About the origin of life, about the emergence of humanity, about the path of generations and how not to stray from the right one.

The mountains have absorbed the memory and experience of all those who once lived and are living now. They realize the power of harmony, beauty, unity and love better than anyone else on Earth.

Our Whisper of the Mountains project is about this sacred knowledge.

This knowledge can be passed on to us by gorgeous nymphs living in the mountains, cherished by their stories, almost invisible to the eye and appearing at times when humanity needs support. Having absorbed a piece of knowledge expressing by these magical creatures, we can rethink the attitude towards ourselves and everything that surrounds us.

Despite the fact that with each meeting with us, the nymphs bring the moment of their rebirth into the mountain flora and fauna closer, they keep sacrificing themselves and sharing with us the whisper of the mountains.

That’s why the mountains beckon so much - we feel their wisdom, their calmness and enjoy the absolute beauty flowing from them.

The Whisper of the Mountains project is nine art photos and a short film. All the works of the collection can be seen at L'ANDART23-Biennale:

Espai Benestar - Av. Francesc Cairat, 22, AD600 Sant Julià de Lòria, Andorra.

On September 14, his solo exhibition opened, and the next day he left...

In Murcia, 50 paintings and sculptures of the Colombian by birth, and a citizen of the world in spirit and lifestyle, Fernando Botero (19.04.1932-15.09.2023), are presented.

From his youth, he created in his own style, which was later called "boterism". His characters - people, animals - look hypertrophied rounded, representing a mixture of naive art, and Colombian folk art.

In our beloved Barcelona, you can see two of his gorgeous works in every sense of the word (see the illustration).

From March to September - blink of an eye

More recently - in May - we were "hunting" for the weather, and the most gorgeous locations. The preparation for the project, the detailed elaboration of its idea and strategy, began in the first days of March.

And now those very "results" are presented at L'ANDART23 in Andorra.

Six months later, we were able to show the world our Whisper of the Mountains collection. It may seem to some that the process has been slightly delayed. But believe us, friends, this is just an illusion!

If you wish your work to be presented at prestigious international events or exhibitions, you have to invest lots of effort, and time to create it, to bring it to perfection. We are already not talking about organizational issues (within the framework of this post)!

In fact, for the art world, this is an unrealistically fast result.
And in the next post we will partially answer the question "why".

How to become a participant in a prestigious exhibition

So, we will lift the curtain of the art world to share our experience.

Information about upcoming, large-scale, events can always be found on the Internet. It is hosted by both specialized publications and websites of exhibition complexes, the events themselves, and their organizers.

Special briefings are sent to those who have already shown and established themselves in the art world.

When receiving such a notification, we develop a concept, create a large production, and after weeks / months of work - depending on the project and the scale of the event, - we get a ready result.

This result is packaged in the format required by the organizers and sent for review. Thus, the simplest, and, at the same time, the most difficult part of the whole process begins. It is waiting for a response from the organizers of the event ;) Here, no matter how titled the artist may be, it is almost impossible to predict the results of the selection. And, you often have to wait months for an answer.

For instance, more than 200 applications were submitted for L'ANDART23, and only 58 artists were selected. The organizers evaluate not only the quality of the works, their compliance with the main idea of the event, but also artistic "compatibility" with the works of other participants. Of course, such decisions require lengthy reflection.

Coordination of the technical part also requires immersion, time and effort. After all, every artist has his own vision of how his work should look in space. It forms a Layout - a project for the presentation of works with all dimensions, equipment necessary for assembly of the installation, and other important details, which also needs the approval of the organizers.

The last stage of negotiations is the coordination of formalities, and the signing of contracts. Everyone probably knows what bureaucracy is. Therefore, comments are unnecessary.

The apotheosis of everything is the exhibition itself, to which the artist often approaches pretty exhausted by the preparatory stages. At the same time, friends, the moment of creation of works commonly charges with energy, but the solution of "non-artistic" issues takes the main amount of time and effort.

We do not pretend to be an expert on this topic, as we are still looking for ways to bring our works to light, and do not always find the right ones. Probably, there are some more humane and loyal ways to artists. Still, so far, our path looks exactly like this :)

Appendicitis & color postcards

At the age of 20, Henri Émile Benoît Matisse began to paint - somehow, it was necessary to brighten up a 2-month stay in the hospital after an appendicitis attack.

The future artist became so interested in redrawing postcards that he soon left law practice, and connected his life with art. As people say, it was a blessing in disguise 🙂

The Matisse Museum in Nice, which we recently visited, constantly holds exhibitions related to various events, people, and creative periods in the artist's life.

Our video was shot for you at the exposition of works made exclusively in the 30s of the XX century - at the stage of maturity of the master.
