ترجمه: «ام سلمه رَضي اللَّه عنها می‌گوید: شوهر زنی فوت كرد و بیم آن می‌رفت كه چشمانش را از دست بدهد. خویشاوندانش نزد رسول الله ﷺ آمدند و از ایشان، اجازه خواستند تا آن زن، از سرمه استفاده كند. پیامبر اكرم ﷺ فرمود: «نباید سرمه استعمال كند. اگر در دوران جاهلیت، شوهر یكی از شما فوت می‌كرد، در بدترین لباسهایتان و یا در بدترین خانه‌هایتان بسرمی بردید و پس از گذشت یكسال و عبور سگی از آنجا، سرگینی پرتاب می‌كردید. و بعد از آن، غسل كرده و استفاده از زیورآلات برای شما حلال می‌شد. پس این زن، حق ندارد تا زمانی كه چهار ماه و ده روز، سپری نشده است از سرمه، استفاده كند»».
