ترجمه: «ابن عباس رَضِیَ اَللهُ عَن‍‍‍‍ْهُمَا می‌گوید: وقتی رسول الله ﷺ وارد مدینه شد، دید كه یهود، روز عاشورا را روزه می‌گیرند. پرسید: «این روزه برای چیست»؟ گفتند: این روز (دهم محرم)، روز خوبی است. یعنی روزی است كه خداوند بنی اسرائیل را از دست دشمن، نجات داد. بدین جهت بود كه حضرت موسی این روز را روزه گرفت. رسول خدا ﷺ فرمود: «من از شما به موسی نزدیک‌تر هستم». پس خودش روزه گرفت و به یارانش دستور داد كه روزه بگیرند». (البته این حكم قبل از فرض شدن روزه رمضان بود).
