As Jon Steward aficionado I joiced his come back to The Daily Show. And boy he doesn't disappoint. Especially in the latest interview with Lina Khan - FTC Chairwoman. I'm not so interested in dissecting the episode, for an overly complex topic of monopolies and their effects on the markets. Steward overlooked positive arguments stemming from maturing industries, consolidation they murf into, and efficiencies these developments create from economies of scale. I want to focus on the guest.

She was born in 1989 in London. In June 2021 assumed the office of FTC chair. She was 32 at the time. Impressive. Really. A well-spoken, pragmatic leader of an obscure, but important federal agency. She boasts a reputable track record of challenging some big corporations. If she's not an ideal candidate to lead federal office, I don't know who is. Steward and his audience were immensely elated with her.

Immediately I was hit by a thought of how Lina is the extreme opposite to AOC. They both are of the same age. Both possess a reverent academic pedigree and climb to federally important political posts at a very young age. Although AOC achieved that two years earlier. And yet, one can't help to notice the disparity between the rational cool of Lina and the overly emotional and often clueless nature of AOC. How former is measuring her words according to the laws she's been placed to enforce and how later buttressing her public conduct by rosy ideals with little basis in reality. Where AOC exposes a stereotypical entitlement of the millennial generation, Lina conducts her in a carefully restrained manner. The stark contrast of these traits is a quintessence of professional differences between employees of an executive branch and a legislative one.

P.S.How many countries could boast about a foreign-born person securing a leadership role in a federal agency? Meritocracy in action.
