Сегодня очень интересная дата. 6 марта 1869 года Дмитрий Менделеев представил периодическую систему химических элементов Русскому химическому обществу.
Изначально в ней отсутствовал ряд элементов, причем даже известные на тот момент пять редкоземельных металлов: иттрий, церий, лантан, эрбий и дидим.
В 1906 году в 8-м издании «Основ химии» учёный поместил в таблице символы La (лантан), Ce (церий) и Yb (иттербий), а другие известные редкоземельные элементы удостоились лишь прочерков.
Большая часть редкоземельных элементов получила свое место в таблице значительно позже.
