Bears are often seen pausing to take in breathtaking views, hinting at a possible sense of beauty. In the wild, they've been spotted sitting silently for long stretches, gazing at sunsets, lakes, and mountains. Not hunting, not moving, just watching. Scientists have few explanations for this behavior, other than the idea that bears might simply enjoy the scenery.
This wasn't staged. No animal trainer, no movie set. Just a bear doing what came naturally, wrote Maureen Enns, who lived in Russia’s Kamchatka wilderness in the 1990s with her husband to explore peaceful coexistence with bears. This very photo inspired years of observation and a series of paintings, many created inside bear dens.
