🔹 امیر تیمور گورکانی (تیمور لنگ) سردار و فاتح مشهور قرن هشتم هجری (۱۴ میلادی) بود که در ماوراءالنهر (سمرقند) حکومت تشکیل داد و بعدها قلمرو بزرگی از هند تا شام و آسیای صغیر را فتح کرد.
طبق گزارش‌های تاریخی (مثل کتاب روضه‌الصفا میرخواند و حبیب‌السیر خواندمیر): وقتی تیمور در سال 803 هجری قمری (۱۴۰۰ م) به شام و دمشق رسید، به زیارت قبرستان «باب‌الصغیر» و مکان‌های تاریخی رفت. در این سفر قبر یزید بن معاویه را که در دمشق بود، پیدا کرد.
