با کمال تأسف مطلع شدم که خانم دکتر شیرین مهدوی (خازنی)، یکی از شاخص‌ترین محققان تاریخ اقتصادی، اجتماعی و فرهنگی ایران عصر قاجار دار فانی را وداع کرده‌اند.
خانم دکتر شیرین مهدوی، دانش آموخته دانشگاه یوتا بود و دکترای خود را از دانشگاه علوم اقتصادی و سیاسی لندن (ال.اس.ای) دریافت کرد و سال‌ها در دانشکده علوم اجتماعی تهران و دانشگاه یوتا آمریکا تدریس می‌کرد.
مهم‌ترین اثر دکتر مهدوی، زندگی‌نامه تحلیلی حاج محمدحسن امین‌الضرب است که بر اساس پایان نامه دکترای او بود و در سال ۲۰۰۰ میلادی با عنوان: For God, Mammon, And Country: A Nineteenth-century Persian Merchant, Haj Muhammad Hassan Amin Al-zarb به چاپ رسید.
ترجمه این کتاب، با عنوان «زندگی‌نامه‌ی حاج محمدحسن کمپانی امین دارالضرب» و با ترجمه خانم دکتر منصوره اتحادیه و خانم فرحناز امیرخانی منتشر شده است.
از خانم مهدوی کناب دیگری در ایران با همکاری مرحوم استاد ایرج افشار و آقای نادر مطلبی کاشانی با عنوان «اسناد امین‌الضرب، مکاتبات اصغر مهدوی و شیرین مهدوی» در سال ۱۳۹۶ منتشر شده است.
خانم دکتر مهدوی فرزند مهندس ابراهیم مهدوی رجال سیاسی و اقتصادی دوران پهلوی بود.
