Last Update:
Ms. Marjan Yashayai, my respectful friend and member of the "Jewish Graduates Group of Iran," in an important and timely article in today's issue of Etemad Newspaper (Wednesday, October 15, 2024), on the occasion of the Hebrew New Year and Yom Kippur, gave an overview of the peaceful situation regarding the Jewish synagogues in Iran and the normal and calm performance of Jewish religious ceremonies in the heart of mostly non-Jewish Iran. This is especially notable "in the middle of the crisis in the Middle East, in the midst of the tragic slaughter in Gaza and southern Lebanon," and in comparison with the situation of synagogues in Western countries.
According to Mrs. Yeshayai: "Our 2,700 years of companionship with different religions and peoples in this great land...is nothing but a deep culture of tolerance...and for this reason, it has made Iran one of the most distinguished countries in the world."
In a situation where there are hardly any Jews left in the surrounding region of Iran, the considerable population of Jewish Iranians, in general, are loyal citizens. Despite all the ups and downs of recent decades, they now have normal and healthy relations with the Muslim majority and the government. We should recognize the importance and value of this population, Iranian tolerance, and healthy relations between religions in the great Iran and be proud of it.
