زاد الفرات على عهد أمير المؤمنين فركب هو وابناه الحسن والحسين عليهماالسلام فمر بثقيف فقالوا :
قد جاء علي يرد المآء فقال علي عليهالسلام : أما والله لاقتلن أنا وابناي هذان وليبعثن الله رجلا من ولدي في آخر الزمان يطالب بدمائنا وليغيبن عنهم تمييزا لاهل الضلالة حتى يقول الجاهل :
