When one studies a life-science (be it medicine, biology, biochemistry, ...etc) one is first appalled by the amount of rules and exceptions to those very rules until the very concept of a 'rule' becomes understood more like a pattern and typicality rather than in the way physical rules are generally understood; as boundaries to reality itself.
After a while, the dismay turns into familiarity and may be even seen as beautifully chaotic. One then embraces the fluidity of life and is not anxious anymore over whether viruses are living things or not, or whether a certain cancer is a lymphoma or a leukemia, or may be both, or neither.
