🔥🚒 Today, March 6 at 9:00 AM, a fire drill will take place at Larnaca Airport. The scenario involves extinguishing a chemical fire in the LAFS aviation fuel system outside the airport premises.
Firefighting crews will be deployed on-site; however, there is no cause for concern - this is a scheduled exercise aimed at improving emergency response readiness.
This is not the first drill at the airport. Last summer, on July 11, passengers observed a smoke-emitting aircraft as part of an aviation incident simulation. A year earlier, in April, similar firefighting training sessions were conducted.
The airport will continue to operate as usual, though emergency vehicles may be briefly present in the drill area.

✈️ Once again, discussions on direct flights between Cyprus and Kazakhstan 🇨🇾🇰🇿.
Another round of talks on launching air connectivity between Cyprus and Kazakhstan has concluded on a positive note, with flights expected to commence in 2026. Kazakh airlines will be able to operate routes to Larnaca and Paphos, while Cypriot carriers will have the option to fly to Astana and Almaty.
That said, such discussions have been ongoing for years, resurfacing like baggage on a carousel, yet never quite reaching the runway. However, perhaps this time, planes will actually take off from Kazakhstan to Cyprus (and back) instead of remaining on the list of "promising projects."

Transavia demands additional payment for tickets due to France’s new aviation “eco-tax” 🇫🇷✈️
Passengers who had already purchased tickets for Transavia flights received unexpected emails from the airline – they are now required to pay extra for tickets they had already paid for.
The reason behind this is the increase in France’s TSBA tax (Taxe de Solidarité sur les Billets d’Avion), which has risen as of 1 March:
- From €2.63 to €7.40 for domestic and European flights.
- From €7.51 to €15 for long-haul routes.
Transavia has decided to charge passengers the difference, even if they bought their tickets long before the new tax was announced. Payment can be made via a link in the email, and failure to do so may result in denied boarding.
Other airlines operating from France have yet to confirm whether they will follow the same approach.

On Monday, 10 March, Germany will face a major strike by ground service workers and the public sector, leading to severe disruptions at airports. The strike will last for 24 hours, from 00:00 to 23:59.
The protest is driven by an ongoing wage dispute between the ver.di union and employers. Employees responsible for check-in, baggage handling, and other ground operations will take part. Significant delays and cancellations are expected at the following airports:
- Munich
- Frankfurt
- Düsseldorf
- Cologne/Bonn
- Stuttgart
- Dortmund
- Hamburg
- Hanover
- Bremen
- Leipzig/Halle
- Berlin Brandenburg (which will shut down entirely)
Preliminary estimates suggest that more than 3,400 flights will be cancelled across Germany, affecting around 510,000 passengers.
If you were planning to travel on this day from or to Germany, check with your airline for flight status updates. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for 14–16 March.

The European Union is considering changes to passenger compensation rules for flight delays. If approved, the minimum delay threshold for mandatory airline compensation could increase from three to five hours.
Currently, passengers whose flights are delayed by more than three hours are entitled to compensation ranging from €250 to €600, depending on the flight distance. However, airlines have been lobbying for changes for several years, arguing that the compensation system causes significant financial strain on the aviation industry. Over the past year alone, airlines have paid more than €3 billion in compensation, which they claim contributes to rising ticket prices and financial instability.
Among the airlines supporting the initiative are Ryanair, easyJet, Lufthansa, Air France-KLM, and Volotea. They argue that the current rules are outdated and place an excessive burden on carriers. However, passenger rights advocates warn that such changes could deprive up to 80% of affected passengers of compensation, effectively allowing airlines to delay flights with fewer consequences.
No final decision has been made yet, but the discussions in Brussels have already sparked heated debates between the aviation industry and passenger representatives.
