قيل: كانت بمَلَل -موضع- امرأة ينزل بها الناس، فنزل بها أبو عبيدة بن عبد اللّٰه بن زَمْعة، وعِمران بن عبد اللّٰه بن مُطيع، ونُصيْب الشاعر. فلما رحلوا، وهب لها القُرشيَّان، ولم يكن مع نُصيْب شيء، فقال لها: اختاري: إن شئتِ أضمن لك مثل ما أعطياك إذا قدمت، وإن شئتِ قلتُ فيكِ أبياتًا تنفعك؟ قالت: بل الشِّعرُ أحبُّ إليَّ. فقال:
ألا حيِّ قبلَ البَينِ أُمَّ حَبيبِ وإنْ لم تَكُنْ مِنَّا غدًا بقريبِ
لَئِنْ لم يَكُنْ حُبِّيكِ حُبًّا صَدَقْتُهُ فما أحدٌ عِندي إذًا بحبيبِ
تَهَامٍ أصابتْ قَلبَهُ مَلَلِيَّةٌ غَريبُ الهوى يا ويحَ كُلِّ غريبِ
