«نوشتن» از مهم‌ترین «امکان»هایی‌ست که ما برای صورتبندی و مفهوم کردنِ دنیای درون‌مان داریم: مفهوم کردنِ دنیای درون‌مان برای دیگران، و حتی برای خودمان. اما نوشتن، تن دادن به «محدودیت‌های زبان» و «درخواست‌های مخاطب» هم هست. ۱. «زبان»، ساختارهای تاریخی و فرهنگی خودش را دارد؛ منطقِ خودش را تحمیل می‌کند. و ۲. نویسنده، آرام‌آرام درمی‌یابد که «مخاطب» چه می‌خواهد و می‌پسندد؛ نویسنده به منطق بازار تن می‌دهد: عرضه و تقاضا. پس هرچند که زبان از جذاب‌ترین و کارآمدترین امکاناتِ ماست، می‌توان با این نکتهٔ رولان بارت هم موافق بود که: «نوشتن یعنی مدفون کردن صداقت». یعنی تن دادن به ابهام و ایهام و تاریخ.
