Message from incarcerated J6er, Michael Eckerman (May, 2023):
“There is a family man in prison for just standing up against tyrants, and being away from my wife and children is the hardest thing I have had to endure. I have no criminal history. Me and my wife met at 16 years old in high school and have been together ever since…crazy writing that out  She is a great mother and patriot as well; and we just want to see this country find itself again because right now this is not the way. I was charged with nine crimes after returning home from DC, the worst of them was assaulting a police officer, which I did not do and the process took almost two years of working with my attorney and refusing to sign a plea deal that said I anything like assaulting a cop. But to my dismay, the charge is “resisting, assaulting or impeding an officer” and they all carry the same guidelines as far as sentencing.
That being said, my DC attorney, which to this day I don’t have ill will towards, just did enough to keep this process legal. They rewrote my plea for the third time, stating that I was in a crowd that caused an officer to fall down, but there was not video or evidence of me harming anyone so the plea was written in such lines which was 24 months. But it could have up to 30 months if the judge wanted it to be; he settled for 20. You see a certain officer said I was the one who shoved him, but there was no evidence of that so the judge said he could not add six points on to my felony; but on the other hand, he said I am a white privileged man and since I was able to keep my employment through all this I was lucky. I have worked in transportation for 20 years. I managed a freight company…for the last seven years and oversaw the entire state…It was something I worked my entire life to do and was proud to do it, but also along the way gained respect from my peers and superiors; so for him to say that was “my white privilege”, that left a nasty taste in my mouth to say the least.”
