Smartphone makers won’t be able to sell cheap products that die soon in Europe. The law enforced by the European Union will come into effect on June 20, which mandates OEMs to ensure the longevity of phones and tablets.

EU’s new directive under the Energy Labelling and Ecodesign Regulation:

June 20 will also mark the beginning of the EU’s Energy Labelling requirements. Phone makers will have to put an energy label on smartphones and tablets, which will display key details, including:

- energy efficiency
- battery longevity
- dust and water ingress protection
- repairability score
