The miners, which collectively produce about 12 petahashes/sec, are housed in an unmarked container to prevent prying eyes—security is a big concern in an industry that costs more than $10,000 per machine. This particular mine is rarely visited except in emergencies and is far from any residential areas, making safety an even greater challenge.
To prevent the machines from overheating under the scorching Spanish sun, the PoW company uses immersion cooling. The technique involves placing the machine in a drawer and then filling the drawer with specialized mineral oil. When the machine is running, the hot oil rises to the surface and cools as it passes through different pipes that come into contact with other pipes that carry cold water. Then pump the cold oil back into the drawer.
