در فاصله‌ی سال‌های ۱۹۴۲ و ۱۹۴۴، «دادگاه خلق برلین» ۴۹۳۳ نفر را به جرم بیان «لطیفه‌های مأیوس‌کننده» درباره‌ی حزب نازی به مرگ محکوم کرد. در سال ۱۹۴۴، ماریان الیز کِی، کارگر کارخانه‌ی مهمات‌سازی در برلین، به جرم تضعیف جنگ «از طریق سخنان مغرضانه» اعدام شد. جرم او چه بود؟ تعریف این لطیفه‌ برای همکارانش در کارخانه‌ی مهمات‌سازی: هیتلر و گورینگ بالای برج مخابراتِ برلین ایستاده‌اند. هیلتر می‌گوید که دلش می‌خواهد کاری بکند تا اهالیِ برلین شاد شوند. گورینگ می‌گوید: «خب چرا نمی‌پَری پایین؟»
یکی از همکاران ماریان که این لطیفه را اتفاقی شنید به مسئولان محلی گزارش داد، و این خبرچینی به اعدام ماریان انجامید.
