Title: Accelerating Fusion: Aligning Technology & Supply Chains for Europe’s Net-Zero Future
Europe’s fusion community is moving from scientific proof-points to industrial reality. The European Fusion Association’s (EFA) Technology Working Group (TWG) is mapping the critical R&D and engineering milestones that must be mastered to deliver first-of-a-kind power plants. In parallel, the Supply Chain Working Group (SCWG) is quantifying capacity, skills and financing needs across a pan-European network of more than 40 members, ensuring that every nut, bolt and vacuum vessel can be sourced competitively here in Europe. In this webinar, Milena Roveda (Chair, EFA) will provide a brief introduction to EFA—its vision, ambition, and progress. Alexander Navitski will present the priorities of the TWG, while Giampiero Lapenna will outline the focus areas of the SCWG. Together, their insights will offer a comprehensive view of EFA’s current focus on both technology and supply chain, illustrating the power of European industrial leadership and coordination in the global fusion race.
Speakers
👉 Milena Roveda
Chair, European Fusion Association; CEO, Gauss Fusion
Milena has served as Chair of the European Fusion Association (EFA) since October 2024. This Brussels-based, non-profit association is uniting European companies across the fusion value chain; accelerating the transition of fusion energy from lab to grid; and putting fusion at the center of Europe's industrial renaissance. Milena is also CEO of Gauss Fusion, a leading European commercial fusion venture. With over 30 years’ experience, including at C-suite level, Milena brings expertise in finance and strategic business alignment, having worked at the likes of Bayer and Thyssenkrupp, as well as for portfolio companies of Carlyle Group, EQT and Investcorp.
👉 Dr Alexander Navitski
Head of Superconducting RF & Fusion/Energy Equipment, RI Research Instruments GmbH
A physicist-turned-industrial-leader, Alexander heads RI Research Instruments’ superconducting RF and fusion systems division, overseeing large-scale fabrication of cavities, cryomodules and specialist components for ITER, DEMO and private-fusion demonstrators. He serves as Vice Chair on the European Fusion Association’s Technology Working Group, and regularly advises European laboratories on advanced manufacturing for high-heat-flux components.
👉 Giampiero Lapenna
Business Leader (Fusion Projects), Ansaldo Nucleare
Based in Genoa, Giampiero leads Ansaldo Nucleare’s fusion portfolio, directing multidisciplinary teams that deliver balance-of-plant, remote-handling and safety-class systems for ITER and future demonstration plants. With 20 years’ experience in nuclear new-build, decommissioning and supply-chain development, Giampiero serves as Direttore Tecnico at Ansaldo, as well as Chair of the European Fusion Association’s Supply Chain Working Group.
