📌 On the Anniversary of the 1979 Iranian Revolution | Part One

Forty-six years have passed since the 1979 Iranian Revolution, yet the question of why it happened and what drove the people toward such a radical transformation remains a subject of debate. Some attribute it to ideological idealism, while others point to economic, social, and geopolitical factors. However, from a broader perspective, historical transformations are rarely the result of political revolutions alone. Instead, they emerge from deep technological, economic, and structural shifts in society.

Jeremy Rifkin, a renowned economist and futurist, explores this idea in The Third Industrial Revolution. He argues that major historical shifts occur when energy systems, communication technologies, and economic infrastructures evolve simultaneously. The Second Industrial Revolution, which was built on electricity, oil, telephony, and automobiles, led to the rise of centralized governments and large-scale economies. Today, however, with the advent of The Third Industrial Revolution, we are witnessing the breakdown of these traditional structures and moving toward a more distributed model where power and resources are decentralized across networks.

One of the fundamental challenges of the 1979 revolution—and many other revolutions throughout history—was the absence of a viable alternative economic and administrative structure. Instead of fostering systemic change, power was simply transferred from one ruling class to another. Sustainable transformations, by contrast, typically emerge through the gradual establishment of new economic and social frameworks. Sudden revolutions, if not carefully planned with a long-term vision, often result in the replication of past problems under new guises.

In today’s world, meaningful change is no longer dependent on political leaders or ideological movements. Instead, it is driven by the development of new infrastructures that enable the sustainable distribution of power and wealth. Examples of such transformations include the rise of decentralized technologies, renewable energy solutions, and new economic models that allow individuals to meet their needs without relying on centralized institutions.
