داستان ما، حکایت بغداد است… شهری کهن، در خوابِ نازِ بی‌خیالی، غرقه بود. و فریادی پنهان در باد، می‌گفت: «به ما چه؟ ما که دوریم، ما که امنیم، ما چرا باید بسوزیم؟»
اما باد وزید، ابر سیاه مغول آمد، و شمشیرش، نه مرز می‌شناخت، نه خواب، نه کودکی، نه کتاب.
بغداد، با هزاران فانوس خاموش، افتاد. و خاکِ خاور، از خونِ مردمش سرخ شد.
تاریخ هنوز هم از آن روز، با هق‌هق، یاد می‌کند.
و امروز، غزه‌ست که ایستاده، میان دود و آتش و آیه. اگر سنگرِ غزه فرو ریزد، نوبت ماست، نوبتِ خانه‌های روشنِ ما، دل‌های خاموشِ ما، شهرهای دورِ ما…
