QuestionγHOW TO RESPOND TO A PROTESTANT, WHEN THEY SAY π
βThe Catholic Church was created by the Emperor Constantine when he made Christianity the official religion
of the Roman Empire.β ? π€
COMPLETE REFUTATION OF THIS LIEπβ€οΈ
ANSWER γAlthough Constantine is often credited with being the first Christian emperor, he didnβt make Christianity the official religion. What he did, together with his colleague and rival, Licinius, was issue the Edict of Milan in A.D. 313, which proclaimed religious toleration for Christianity among the other religions in the empire.
He also didnβt create the Catholic Church, which already existed in his day. Indeed, it had already been known by that name for more than 200 years. The Catholic Church was Founded by JESUS CHRIST our LORD upon St.Peter the rock... Matthew 16:16-19
And interestingly, the word Catholic is actually found in Acts 9:31 in the Greek.
Acts 9:31: βThe church throughout all [Greek: αΌΞΊΞΊΞ»Ξ·ΟΞ―Ξ±,ΞΊΞ±ΞΈβ,α½ Ξ»Ξ·Ο ,ΟαΏΟ ] Judea and Galilee and Sama'ria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.β
St. Ignatius of Antioch : βWherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Churchβ (Letter to the Smyrneans 8).
βLet no one do anything of concern to the Church without the bishop. Let that be considered a valid Eucharist which is celebrated by the bishop or by one whom he ordains [i.e., a presbyter]. Wherever the bishop appears, let the people be there; just as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Churchβ (Letter to the Smyrneans 8:2 [A.D. 110]).

So Prots... The fact that St.Ignatius of Antioch introduces the phrase βCatholic Churchβ without stopping to explain it indicates it was already in use, and he could expect people in the distant church of Smyrna to understand what it meant. This wide circulation therefore must have begun in the second half of the first century. Numerous other sources which I have stated also show that the Catholic Church is Way older than Constantine .
So stop being Stubborn and come home to Rome.
Tertullian also Mentions to the Catholic Church π
βWhere was [the heretic] Marcion, that shipmaster of Pontus, the zealous student of Stoicism? Where was Valentinus, the disciple of Platonism? For it is evident that those men lived not so long agoβin the reign of Antonius for the most partβand that they at first were believers in the doctrine of the Catholic Church, in the church of Rome under the episcopate of the blessed Eleutherius, until on account of their ever restless curiosity, with which they even infected the brethren, they were more than once expelledβ (Demurrer Against the Heretics 30 [A.D. 200Even St.Cyprian of Carthage Referss to the Catholic Church π
βYou ought to know, then, that the bishop is in the Church and the Church in the bishops; and if someone is not with the bishop, he is not in the Church. They vainly flatter themselves who creep up, not having peace with the priest of God, believing that they are secretly in communion with certain individuals. For the Church, which is one and catholic, is not split or divided, but is indeed united and joined by the cement of priests who adhere to one anotherβ (Letters 66[67]:8 [A.D. 253]).
