● Aim - reversing the decline in India’s camel population.

● Nodal ministry- Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying

● Key Features:

-Multi-Ministerial Collaboration: ministries of Animal Husbandry, Environment, Rural Development, and Tourism.
-Legal and Trade Reforms: Review of the Rajasthan Camel Act and development of safe inter-state trade mechanisms.
-Promotion of Camel Culture: Awareness campaigns, school textbooks & World Camel Day celebration.

● Current Situation
- declined (11 lakh in 1977 to 2.52 lakh 2019) (20th Livestock Census).
-Nearly 90% of camels -Rajasthan and Gujarat.

● Importance: - Economic & Ecological Role: crucial for livelihoods& desert ecology.
