This discussion has been unending: "We heard..."; "We were told..."; "We overheard..."; "We have seen our friends..."

Out here we can barely distinguish the facts from the myths. What's with the historic tales of a strained relationship? Is it factual or perceived? *What's the secret that is never discussed openly?* Is it a money-issue?

Now, we seek to hear from men and women who have walked down this path.

Rtn. Adam, Rtn. Ronald and Rtn. Jane are Rotaract Alumni who joined Rotary in their 20's. Rtn.Sidy and Rtn. Alex are charter members of their Rotary clubs; and served as Rotary Presidents in their 20's. They truly should help us distinguish the facts from the myths, right?

Below is the RI Presidential Message

Holger Knaack - President 2020-21(Presidential Message)

February 2021
In Rotary, 23 February is our anniversary, and February is also the month when we focus on promoting peace. There is a reason for this: Contributing to peace and international understanding has been a high priority for us since our earliest days.
.
.
.
We have lasted 116 years because of our strong ethics, our passion for Service Above Self, and our unique approach to problem-solving. One of our greatest strengths is how we reach across our communities and across national, ethnic, religious, and political divisions to unite people of all backgrounds and to help others. This month, letโ€™s celebrate our history and the many ways that Rotary Opens Opportunities to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace, our ultimate mission.

Over the past few days, Rotaract Ethiopia has been having an interesting conversation on Peace and Human Rights with various Guest Speakers + Rotarians as well as Human Rights Experts from all over the globe.

We had Charlie Allen, from Rotary Australia, who is the Director of Partnerships at Institute for Economics and Peace, and on the Panel Discussion we had with him, he mentioned a couple of opportunities as the call to action for the the Peace Consultation Participants. These included:-

1. IEP Ambassador Program โ€“ this is now open for applications. Participation is free and participants received a certificate of completion once concluding the program. It also links the participants with a global network of over 2000 IEP Ambassador Alumni in 106 countries. The program leads the participant through activating Positive Peace within their communities. Applications close on 30 September.

2. Positive Peace online academy โ€“ this is another free opportunity to learn more about Positive Peace through an online training program. Over 10,000 people have taken this course globally.

We believe that these opportunities are better shared with everyone in Rotaract as we all have a contribution for the Peace Building in our Country as well as our communities.

So please do apply for these opportunities and be an Ambassador for Peace in your communities.
Welcome on Board; our Rotaract Clubs!

Dear Rotary leaders:

I want to update you on an exciting new opportunity from The Rotary Foundation. Beginning next Rotary year, Rotaract clubs can receive Rotary Foundation district grant funds or global grants to support their service efforts in their own communities or abroad. Starting in January, districts that are applying for their district grants can include Rotaract club activities in their spending plans. And in July, Rotaract clubs can apply for global grants.

We suggest that Rotaract clubs start with district grants and then, when they have some experience managing such a project and applying for and reporting on grants, consider applying for a global grant.

To be eligible to sponsor a global grant, a Rotaract club must have partnered previously with a Rotary club or district on a global grant-funded project and must be qualified to participate in global grants. Districts are responsible for tracking club qualification as well as previous Rotaract participation in grants. If the Rotaract club applies for a global grant as the international or host sponsor, the other sponsor needs to be a Rotary club.

Here are some things that Rotary clubs and districts can do now to prepare for this change:

Invite Rotaractors to participate in grant management seminars so their clubs can become qualified to apply for global grants

Appoint Rotaractors to committees or subcommittees

Partner with Rotaract clubs on grant-funded projects

Develop a system to track which Rotaract clubs have participated in global grant-funded projects

Ask Rotaractors to help organize a fundraiser

Consider changing the way the district distributes DDF to facilitate Rotaract involvement

Invite Rotaract clubs to participate in project fairs

Work with Rotaract clubs in your district to make sure that they have reported their current membership information to Rotary

Here are some things that Rotaract clubs can do now to get ready:

Learn about Rotary grants

Participate in a grant management seminar and work with your district leaders to become qualified to apply for global grants

Help conduct a community assessment

Take an active role in implementing a project funded by a district or global grant

Work with a Rotary club to organize a fundraiser

Participate in public relations and advocacy efforts

Contribute technical, cultural, or academic expertise to the development of a grant-funded activity

Make sure that your clubโ€™s current membership information has been reported to Rotary

All of us on Rotaryโ€™s Grants staff look forward to supporting Rotaract clubs in doing even more good in the world.

Sincerely,

Meredith Burlew
