Polio is a paralyzing disease that mainly affects children under five  and  𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱—but it can be 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 and 𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱! 💉✨

🙌 Thanks to 𝗥𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 and 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, polio cases have dropped 99.9% since 1988 .

🌍 Today, only Afghanistan 🇦🇫 and Pakistan 🇵🇰 report wild poliovirus.

💙 Rotary leads advocacy , fundraising , and volunteer efforts —raising $50M/year, matched  by the Gates Foundation, to fight polio worldwide.

👏 Because of these efforts: Nearly 20 million people who would otherwise have been paralyzed are walking,
and more than 1.5 million lives have been saved.

From May 30 – June 2, 2025, Ethiopia’s second nationwide nOPV2 campaign protected over 16.8 million children across 10 regions.

👏 Backed by the Ministry of Health, EPHI, WHO, UNICEF, Rotary, and partners, this success builds on Round 1, which reached over 15.3 million children (103% coverage!).

⚠️ With 69 polio cases reported since 2024, every vaccine dose counts.

⚡️Let’s keep fighting 💪 to protect every child, everywhere! 🌍

The PolioPlus Society (PPS) is a Rotary giving program where members commit to contributing at least $100 every year for Rotarians and $26.50 for Rotaractors to Rotary’s PolioPlus Fund until polio is eradicated. Every dollar given is matched 2-to-1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, tripling your impact. 💪✨

PPS funds support vaccinating children in the last polio-endemic countries, responding to outbreaks in countries like Ethiopia, training community health workers, and strengthening surveillance and lab testing .
