Microsoft store offers a sandboxing feature but where is the usage? If most apps are essentially web apps.
There’s tons of general purpose programs like reddit, facebook and discord, they are either PWA or electron apps. a browser gives you more control and even can implement far more restrictions and sandboxing, and also performance, Those “apps” even have higher chance of running on the background than a web tab.
Electron apps consume far more power and have far more access to system files, that not even convenience can be used as an argument.
sure, security, Microsoft makes sure what you’re downloading is not malicious but, if i’m installing a package from an official source. I don’t really see the point of Microsoft store

how do i get the win11 taskbar?
(not sure whats the flair) so uhh one day i was wondering to myself if i could change the windows 10 taskbar to look like 11's but majority of the tutorials use a start app shortcut instead of an actual start button that feels realistic, is it possible?

Was Windows 8 viable long term?
I've been thinking about it for a while, and I have increasingly felt like that the Windows 8 concept wouldn't have survived past the 2010s no matter what, much of it simply because it is doubtful small Windows tablets would have continued being as common as they were in 2014 after Intel nixed the Atom. Because larger Windows tablets that weren't 2-in-1s never took off and people with 2-in-1s even then tended to use them more in laptop mode, I feel like Metro would be seen as increasingly obsolete and Microsoft likely would attempt to do what Windows 10 in 2015 did and reconcile their Windows everywhere vision with the reality that many wanted another plain old version of Windows. Eventually, the "everywhere else" would fade as MS becomes more and more a services company, with things like Windows Phone on life support for years by now and something purely desktop focused like Windows 11 already here or about to arrive.
Succinctly put, even if they had kept the start button and boot to desktop in 8.0, had a great on-boarding experience from the start, and generally avoided those smaller mistakes that made the failure of Windows 8 worse than it could've been otherwise, it would have only delayed the inevitable by a few years.

Anyone else feel uneasy about kernel-level anti-cheat always running on your system?
I’ve been feeling increasingly uncomfortable with how many modern games rely on third-party anti-cheat systems that require kernel-level access (like Vanguard, Easy Anti-Cheat, etc). These programs basically monitor my entire system, and I’m forced to blindly trust that these companies won’t misuse or expose my data.
Instead of this fragmented and intrusive approach, I wonder:
**Could Microsoft implement native anti-cheat support in Windows?**
For example:
* Windows itself could provide a secure API or runtime check, so games can detect if any non-Microsoft apps are running with admin or kernel privileges during launch.
* It might also log or flag any suspicious API calls (like those related to memory injection, driver loading, etc.)
* The idea is that Windows acts as a *trusted middleman*, offering the needed integrity signals to the game, without every game vendor needing their own rootkit-level tool.
Wouldn’t this be a better long-term direction? Centralized, audited, and privacy-conscious by design?
Has this idea been seriously explored by Microsoft before? Or is there any reason this *can’t* be done?

Stylized Win 11 to look like 95/98. Small resolution adds more vibe.
