Is it possible to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11 without having to create a Microsoft account?

I'm on Windows 10 and don't have a Microsoft account. I was thinking of upgrading but didn't want to create a Microsoft account. How do I go about doing so?

Do you think a cheaper Mac will encourage to fix Windows 11+?

I recently read this article:
https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft/windows-11/apple-making-cheap-macbook-bad-news-for-windows

And honestly, I agree. There are two issues that really bothered me about Windows 11: the dark mode, which was never fixed, and the new ads that pop up in multiple ways. I agree that one of the main reasons people don't switch to Macs is that Apple devices are too expensive, but if an $800 Mac existed, it would certainly be a threat to Microsoft and encourage some evolution, since lately it's been more about adding unsolicited Copilot features than fixing various bugs that have been around for up to a decade since Windows 8.1. What do you think?

Thoughts on the Phone Link integration in the Start menu

This just popped up for me and first impression, delighted by the concept! You don’t always get ecosystem vibes from Microsoft but this is cool, even though the ecosystem isn’t Microsoft-only.

Using it, just seems like a quick access panel and not much interactivity in itself. Clicking anything pretty much opens the app.

Considering Phone Link has got so much better over some time, I’m hoping this new panel would evolve to be more interactive.

Curious what you all think about this?

Bing Wallpaper - Windows 10 to 11 upgrade issue

Hello,

I am working on a Win 10 to 11 migration project and this is the 6th migration project and first time I've come across this issue. It appears Bing Wallpaper is causing a Safeguard block for Windows 11.

I encountered two devices last week unable to upgrade and checked setupdiag/compat logs and found this:

<Programs>

<Program Name="Some Wallpaper Apps may be incompatible" Id="{3eb4353f-e9c5-44b4-97c6-a07df49c5803}" DefaultIcon="True">

<CompatibilityInfo BlockingType="Hard" StatusDetail="WarnUpgrade" Message="Your PC has an app that changes the Windows Desktop or Wallpaper and it may be incompatible with this version of Windows. This app may make unexpected changes to your desktop, may stop responding or not work as intended." Title="Some Wallpaper Apps may be incompatible"/>

<Link Target="https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=2311650" Value="Learn More"/>

<Action Name="Dismiss" Link="wsc:wica:_{3eb4353f-e9c5-44b4-97c6-a07df49c5803}" DisplayStyle="Link" ResolveState="NotRun"/>

</Program>

It appears it is an issue with MS. I had the support teams manually uninstall it and wanted to automate the removal but the weird thing it doesnt seem to appear under the provisioned packages nor uninstall registry. I was going to add the Store app in Intune and do a removal but Intune gives me an error trying to add the app.

Running the Win 11 ISO manually it also confirms Bing Wallpaper blocking the upgrade and it asks me to confirm removal/update prior to proceeding with the install.

Please let me know if you had the same issue in your environment and if you found an automated way via PS to remove it.

Is it possible to install Windows 10 on a USB drive with persistence (like a portable OS)?

I’d like to run a full installation of Windows 10 from a USB drive (not just the installer, but a persistent OS that saves data, apps, and settings). What's the best way to do this?

Color desaturated after latest update

Build 26100.4484 (update KB5060829)

I find that after this update, color on my display is desaturated. I can "fix" it by turning HDR on and then back off. But then it goes back to desaturated again if I turn the display off and back on. When I say desaturated, I don't mean completely, maybe only 10%, just enough to make colors look dull.

Using a 5090 GPU (latest driver) and LG G3 as my display.

Any thoughts on a permanent fix? Thanks!

should I turn memory integrity on?

hi, so I know literally nothing about computers, just to preface. I have a HP Microsoft laptop model 14, idk if I’m in the right subreddit for this, but I was looking around and noticed that it says my memory integrity is off and I’m sure what it does or if I should turn it on. I have no clue if I turned it off somehow or if I never even turned it on when I got early April of this year. thanks in advance!

Is a clean install of windows 10 possible without deleting the partition linux resides

I just recently performed a dual boot with widows 10 and Ubuntu but windows was given me a lot of issues prior. They are problematic enough for me to consider performing another clean installation. I'd like to know if it's possible to perform a clean install without touching Ubuntu. I already tried to 'soft reset' windows in an attempt to resolve the issues mentioned earlier without affecting Ubuntu.

Recall in Lenovo Yoga 7i

Hi all. I just bought the 9th gen Lenovo Yoga 7i which doesn't have the "copilot+PC" quote but it does have the Intel core ultra 7 155h processor with AI.It has features like Windows studio for video calls but I was wondering if it could also have the recall function

Why are so many "Best Selling" apps on the Microsoft Store sketchy or scam apps?

I’ve been browsing the Microsoft Store lately and noticed a pattern: a lot of the top-selling apps seem shady. Many have thousands of five-star reviews that look fake, and the apps themselves use deceptive monetization tactics - like locking basic features behind surprise paywalls or aggressively pushing subscriptions without warning.

Some of them are clearly gaming the system to stay visible and profitable. It's hard to believe this is happening under Microsoft’s nose. Is there any real moderation or fraud detection going on in the Store anymore?

It feels like the quality bar is extremely low and the trust signals (like ratings and rankings) are completely unreliable. Has anyone else noticed this? Is Microsoft aware or just letting it happen?
