Is there any way to get notifications when a specific USB device is connected to your computer?

Hi all!

As the title implies, I'm looking for a way to receive a notification (or, ideally, an always-on indicator) when a specific USB device is connected to my computer.

I use a USB hub to switch peripherals between personal and work computers but there's no obvious indicator of which computer the peripherals are connected to without attempting to use them. In my case, it's a webcam and some audio hardware that swap between the computers, so to test which computer they're connected to I have to play some audio.

If anyone knows of a way to natively receive a notification/indicator or create a system tray icon that only shows up when a specific device is connected I'd really appreciate it - my usual search engine queries aren't getting any results. I'm also open to 3rd party apps if they're known to be safe.

Thanks!

Maybe another 5 years of development and no one would hate Windows 11.

Although it is not the best state of Windows 11, it is much better than when it came out, a hybrid of Windows 10, with parts of Windows 7 still existing...
But Windows 11 is still more of a "business" OS, not a "consumer" OS, which is why everyone loves Windows 10.

About laptops that have NPU, but it is not an Copilot+ PC

Hello,

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5i Gen9(with AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS, that has NPU), but since this pc has only 16 tops, and it is not a dedicated NPU, it can't use WIndows' Copilot.

When and how this ”NPU” will be useful? Do you think they will release more features to these types of PC in WIndows 11 or even 12?

I wish that this ”NPU” will be able to use...

Has anyone found how great the design guidelines for Windows 7 was??

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/uxguide/

This is insane. Absolutely detailed down to every bits. Take a look at `Control/Command Links` for how much texts and how many good/bad examples they used to specifically described how this special control should be used, you just can't see anything quite like this nowadays.

No wonder why there are still so many people love Windows 7 till this day, and it is definitely not just because the Aero effect. Microsoft really put much effort into designing works back then.

The 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' utility was the last thing that still impressed me about MS Windows. Now I can't even make it run on a particular program anymore, even though I opened the dang thing by right-clicking on the very program I want to troubleshoot..

Question. Suggestions on how to download just Windows Word only.

Hello everyone. Bought a new laptop that doesn't have my old Windows Word software. I don't really need anything else with the 365. I'm an artist and writer and just need doc. Any suggestions where I can purchase or download just that app? Thank you.

Windows 11 is great, once modified

I find windows 11 to be more stable , clean and lean , once I've customized it , it's been great. No ads and no unwanted anything.

Setting up windows PC for the kids

I recently upgraded my gaming machine and used the old parts to setup a computer for the kids. I installed windows 11 on it and have my microsoft account on it. I need to setup accounts on the machine for them. I started the process of creating child accounts for them through Settings -> Accounts -> Family, but I don't want to create outlook/hotmail email accounts for them. They already have email accounts through a domain I use for the family. Is it possible to setup accounts for them on this windows 11 pc using their personal email accounts?
