I promise this is last. But nonetheless, cannot stop myself from sharing how much love I've received from everyone. :)
Forever indebted.
UPSC results would be out soon. (Either today or in a day or two)

1. No matter what happens, just know that you gave your best.
2. Success and failure is a part of life. And every failure has an opportunity hidden.
3. Fighting after failure is a rare trait.
4. Fighting after success to maintain that success level is even rarer.

No matter what happens, I'll be here for you, as a mentor and as a guide.

All the best. :)
UPSC COACHING INDUSTRY WORKS ON PHOBIA.

How?

1. "Its December. You should immediately join the Prelims Crash Course to finish revision by February."
2. "Prelims is now over. You should be Mains ready by October.
3. Start Answer Writing from Day 1 else you won't be able to clear UPSC.
4. So and so topper followed our strategy and cracked the exam.

All this fear mongering is wrong on multiple levels:

1. If an aspirant should be Mains ready by October, then why coachings sell Prelims and Mains content separately.
2. Why Prelims and Mains is not taught together? Why do we segregate the batches?
3. Example: Let us say I am studying Article 21, given the current model of coachings - I have to study Article 21 first in their Prelims batch with half hearted understanding. And then again, when their Mains batches start, I will have to study the Article 21 again from the Mains perspective. This causes inconvenience to the student. It is this very model of coachings that doesn't allow the student to feel that his/her preparation is complete.
4. Due to this, an aspirant always hangs in the middle. He is neither Mains ready nor Prelims ready.

At a deeper level, if an aspirant is not clearing the Prelims, what he needs to first understand is the root cause analysis as to where he lacked. If you have pain in the stomach, you will not go to a neurologist and say, I have to keep my mind safe. First treat the stomach. If the Prelims foundation in itself is not clear and the candidate is failing the prelims, what will he do in the Mains course?

I strongly believe that preparation should be comprehensive taking Prelims and Mains together. This comprehensive approach helps tha aspirant to develop a grip.

Given the current changing trend of UPSC, in Prelims itself, there are a large number of analytical options that can be covered only if you've read entire concept in detail. It requires thorough understanding. Covering Prelims before Prelims and Mains before Mains is a faulty approach that keeps the aspirant hanging.

Best wishes.

Why UPSC Mentorship is a bad idea?

1. When a teacher/faculty is a subject specific expert, how is it expected that a mentor will be able to deal with the queries and questions of all the subjects. He cannot be an expert in all the subjects.
You can give an argument that a mentor has appeared for interview and is a good candidate. However, even those selected candidates who leave their job to teach are experts in specific subjects only and don't teach all the subjects themselves. Mentorship, by a generalist candidate, about all the subjects is a fraudulent idea.
2. A mentor is alloted 150-200 students. Do you think that a mentor will innovate a problem-specific solution for you? I have seen mentors first-hand differing from their faculties and solving the doubts of the students in an entirely different manner leading to confusion because mentors are not updated.
3. Mentorship is the DUTY OF THE FACULTY TO GUIDE THE STUDENTS ABOUT THEIR PROBLEMS. However, in the coaching industry, the celebrity teachers don't have time to speak to the students and listen out to them. IT IS THE JOB OF THE FACULTY TO GIVE THE BEST GUIDANCE TO THE STUDENT IN HIS/HER RESPECTIVE SUBJECT.
4. You are smart enough to make your own timetables and study schedule. A mentor in the UPSC Journey is nothing more than an accountability partner where the partnership is one from one end.

Also, from the human psychology perspective, -every Mentor wants to be a faculty someday. 95% of the mentors who join the coaching industry want visibility and money. Their only objective is to get visibility and someday, become a faculty.

My best wishes.
