I was talking to a team of UPSC mentors a few days back. Most of whom claim to have mentored 200+ students each in the last 1 month.
Over a discussion, they told me a fact that "Sir, we have seen your lectures and you're teaching factually incorrect things".
I usually put in a lot of hard work in my lectures and I was taken aback and concerned at the same time if I've done some mistake in the lecture and that shouldn't impact the student's chances of selection.
I asked them the mistake and they told me: " Sir, Money Bill can only be introduced by a Minister whereas, in your class you're teaching that Money Bill can be introduced by both Private Members and Ministers. Sir, Laxmikant mentions that Money Bill can only be introduced by a Minister.".
At that point of time, I laughed and felt bad at the same time. Why?
1. These UPSC mentors who claim to give guidance to the students are not aware of the basic concepts and I feel bad for the students who are relying on them.
2. These mentors, with so much confidence, are spreading the wrong concepts and are not updated with the current needs of the exam.
3. Also, at a deeper level, I realised as to how rotten the UPSC industry is. Coaching owners are hiring and allowing these mentors without any checks and quality assessment.
4. Mentorship is being sold to the naive students by just highlighting the names of a few people.
In reality, the Lok Sabha official response states, that Money Bill can be introduced by a Private Member and a Minister both.
I still feel bad for the aspirants who are falling for this trap of mentorship, that is nothing more than a cheap dopamine to handle them at their lows.
Good luck.

Owing to the differences in thoughts and views and irreversible changes in the dynamics, I am no longer associated with Sarrthi IAS. There were certain differences with regards to the teaching methodology and we amicably decided to part ways.
