Ask Allāh With Certainty

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “.. So when you ask Allāh عزوجل, O people, then ask Him while you are certain of the answer..”

[مسند أحمد ١٤\٣٤٤]
Turning Away From Allah Causes Misery

Ibn al-Qayyim said:

“When a person spends his entire day with no other concern but Allah alone, Allah, may He be glorified, will take care of all his needs and take care of all that is worrying him; He will empty his heart so that it will be filled only with love for Him, free his tongue so that it will speak only in remembrance of Him (dhikr) and cause all his faculties to work only in obedience to Him.

But if a person spends his entire day with no other concern but this world, Allah will make him bear its distress, anxiety and pain; He will leave him to sort himself out, and cause his heart to be distracted from the love of Allah towards the love of some created being, cause his tongue to speak only in remembering people instead of remembering Allah, and cause him to use his talents and energy in obeying and serving them. So he will strive hard, labouring like some work-animal, to serve something other than Allah… Everyone who turns away from being a true slave of Allah and obeying Him and loving Him will be burdened with servitude, love and obedience to some created being.

Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): ‘And whosoever turns away (blinds himself) from the remembrance of the Most Beneficent (Allah), We appoint for him a shaytaan (devil) to be a qareen (intimate companion) to him.’

[al-Zukhruf 43:36].” Al-Fawaa’id, p. 159]
When The Heart Is Agitated

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jawzeeyah [رحمه الله] said:

«إذا اضطرب القلب وقلق فليس له ما يطمئن به سوى ذكر الله.»

"When the heart is agitated and has anxiety then there is nothing that will make it tranquil other than the Dhikr [remembrance] of Allaah."

[Madarij As-Salikeen, (3/72)]
Shaykh ibn ‘Uthaymīn رحمه الله said,

“A person, when Allāh grants him success to remember Him abundantly, He blesses his time for him.”

Beauty and ugliness is a reflection of the heart

Shaykh al-Islām ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said:

Goodness and beauty are due to righteous actions, they are found in the heart and then manifest upon the face.

Ugliness and repulsiveness are due to corrupt actions, they are found in the heart and then manifest upon the face.

Both of these matters then increase depending on one’s righteous – or evil – actions.

When piety and righteousness increase, beauty and goodness are strengthened; when sins and transgression increase, ugliness and repulsiveness become more manifest.

This continues to the extent that a person’s physical beauty or ugliness is removed and changed [depending on one’s good or bad actions].

How many people do not have a beautiful appearance, however, due to righteous actions, their beauty and handsome essence appears, until this physically manifests in their appearance. We see the faces of the people of Sunnah and obedience, the more they age, the more beautiful and handsome they appear, to the extent that some of them are more handsome in their old age than their youth.

And we find the faces of the people of innovation and sinning, the more they age, the more ugly they appear. And this clearly manifests in all people who have severe innovations and evil, such as the Rāfidah (Shia), the people of oppression, the people of immorality etc…

Love and hate only for the sake of Allah

"If a heart becomes attached to anything other than Allah, Allah makes him dependent on what he is attached to. And he will be betrayed by it."

‎Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رحمه الله said: Verily, from the character of the believer is:

• Strength in religion.
• Determination with leniency.
• Faith with certainty.
• Eagerness for knowledge.
• Sympathy with understanding.
• Moderation in worship.
• Mercy with effort.
• Giving to those who ask.
• Not wronging the one he hates.
• Not sinning over the one he loves (i.e. not allowing your love for someone to blind you and make you do haram things).
• Dignified in turmoil.
• Grateful in ease.
• Content with what he has.
• Speaking to impart understanding.
• Being silent out of caution.
• Affirming the truth as a witness over him.

[Jami’ Bayan al-‘Ilm (622)]

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله : The believers encourage people to:

• Reconcile relations with those who have cut them off.
• Give charity to those who have deprived them.
• Forgive those who have oppressed them.
• Be kind with parents.
• Uphold family ties.
• Be kind with neighbors.
• Be kind with orphans, travelers, and the poor, and to be gentle with servants.
• They forbid bragging, arrogance, and transgression.
• They discourage people from feeling superior over others, rightly or wrongly.
• They enjoin people to use lofty manners and prohibit them from pursuing trifles.
• All that they say or do from these virtues and other teachings, in all of it they follow the Qur’an and the Sunnah.
• Their path is the religion of Islam with which Allaah has sent Muhammad.

[al-‘Aqidah al-Wasitiyah (v. 1, p. 71)]
Imam Ahmad رحمه الله stated:

There will come a time upon people, a believer will be like a stinky carcass (disliked and hated by people around him) among them ! And people will point towards Munāfiq (Hypocrite) their fingers (i.e he is a remarkable person) . They will make the commandments of Allah something in which there is no benefit .

When a believer will see an opportunity for commanding good or prohibiting evil , he will not be patient about it till he commands (good) or forbids (evil), but the people will complain that he is doing something which doesn't concern him i.e there is no benefit in what he is doing !

As for a hypocrite (Munāfiq), whatever he sees , he will not care about it and it will be said about him: What a good person he is , he doesn't intervene in what doesn't concern him."

[Adāb Ash-Shari'ah by Ibn Muflih 1/193]
Malik and Zayd ibn Thabit (رضي الله عنهم) related that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

"For the ones whose concern is this world, Allah will scatter his affairs, place poverty between his two eyes and he will not get from the world except what is written for him. As for the one whose intention is the Hereafter, Allah will gather for him his affairs, place contentment in his heart and the world will come to him willingly."
