عن الفضيل بن يسار قال: سألت أبا عبد الله (عليه السلام) عن قول الله تبارك وتعالى: {يوم ندعو كل اناس بإمامهم} فقال: يا فضيل اعرف إمامك, فإنك إذا عرفت إمامك لم يضرك, تقدم هذا الأمر أو تأخر, ومن عرف إمامه ثم مات قبل أن يقوم صاحب هذا الامر, كان بمنزلة من كان قاعداً في عسكره, لا بل بمنزلة من قعد تحت لوائه.
"Al-Fudayl ibn Yasar said: 'I asked Abu Abdullah (Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq, peace be upon him) about the verse of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He: {The day We will call every people with their imam.} He said, 'O Fudayl, know your imam, for if you know your imam, it will not harm you, whether this matter (the reappearance of the Imam) comes sooner or later. And whoever recognizes his imam but dies before the rise of the one in charge of this matter (the Mahdi), will be like the one who sat in his army, indeed, he will be like the one who sat beneath his banner.'
