They took the car, so you have to walk your way there, under the mid day august sun.
Strangely there's no one in sight, not even a car, nor a person.
Some of the houses at your right seems to be left open, as if everyone just disappeared.
Maybe you're hallucinating due to the hot weather, maybe everyone's really gone....
