Hyperflesh masks are incredibly realistic 3D printed masks that combine additive manufacturing with creativity to create masks of celebrities and politicians. The project, led by Landon Meier, first gained popularity in 2016 with political costumes, including masks of Kim Jong-Un, Donald Trump, and Vladimir Putin. Since then, Hyperflesh has expanded its collection to include masks of various celebrities, such as Heisenberg from "Breaking Bad" and Chris Farley. The masks are created using 3D printing technology, which allows for less expensive materials, easier mold reuse, and a lighter mold for easier handling. The production process involves sculpting the mask, converting it into a two-part mold, and then a 40-hour process of silicone casting, painting, and hair work. Landon Meier is looking to expand Hyperflesh, possibly by hiring more people and developing a less expensive version of the masks that can be mass-produced while maintaining high levels of realism. The future of 3D printing technology excites Meier, particularly the development of larger scale SLA 3D printers at an approachable cost and the potential of high-speed DLP 3D printing.
