Reminder that generations of abolitionists lived and died being told that their cause was fruitless because slavery was simply the natural way of the world.

Reminder that John Brown’s raid failed, but he still managed to leverage his imprisonment into martyrdom.

Reminder that slavery went from being legal in all countries to legal in none.

Reminder that the abolitionist movement suffered many devastating setbacks before succeeding in the end.

Do not let anything discourage you from working for a better world. We have come so far, and we will go further.

Happy Juneteenth. source

I’m always surprised there’s people who just do not do activities entirely if they’re alone bc they think other people are judging them for it like going to the movies or just going out to eat like really nobody cares but if they did care theyr an absolute freak. Also next time u go out look around a ton of people are alone it’s normal. I love doing stuff on my own like eating out or going to the movies or whatever myself is a different activity I do it a lot however if you want to be scared of something new you’d be surprised that it is not super uncommon for people to randomly sit down next to me and/or try and talk alá the urinal meme I assume because they’re also alone which is fair however I just get up and move if I don’t feel like it it’s a perfect parry. All this is a good exposure therapy tactic for ppl with social anxiety honestly like getting used to random mildly uncomfortable encounters can make it a lot easier to move around in the world source

As a society we have benefited so much from successful public health measures that we now have the privilege of declaring that we must not need them anymore

Bitch before enriched flour, neural tube defects like spina bifida were far more common. Even now, spina bifida clinicians and researchers are begging to have salt and maize fortified to reach groups that don’t use as much flour. Before iodized salt, the United States had a fucking GOITER BELT (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3509517/). Eleven years after the introduction of fluoridated water, a city in Michigan found the rate of dental caries among school children dropped a staggering 60% (https://www.nidcr.nih.gov/health-info/fluoride/the-story-of-fluoridation) — in an era where tooth decay regularly fucking killed people

I’m literally not even going to start on vaccines, which are among the most successful and robustly studied public health measures in world history source

“People who think we need 'straight pride parades' or a 'white history month' are kinda like people who look at handicapped parking spaces and say 'Why don't I get something like that, huh?!....

"They don't care why it exists, they don't care that they get the whole parking lot, they're just mad that there's 4 spaces in front of the Walmart that aren't just for them." source
