Tips for SPM English Writing

When you answer, take into account the 4 criteria of the Marking Scheme.

1.  Content ( 5 marks) - Make sure you answer all the questions in each question. Normally there are three.

Pastikan jawab semua soalan dalam setiap soalan. Biasanya ada 3 soalan.

2.  Organization ( 5 marks) -

Make sure you organise your writing using the correct format, paragraphs and the use of discourse markers.
Pastikan anda menyusun penulisan anda menggunakan format yang betul, perenggan dan penanda wacana yang sesuai.

3.  Communicative Achievement ( 5 marks) -

Communicative achievement basically means that you must write according to the correct tone. For example, if you are asked for an advice, advise appropriately like using suitable phrases like:-

i. If I were you ...
ii. If I were in your shoes..
iii. In my opinion..
iv. I think you should..

Pencapaian komunikatif pada asasnya bermakna anda mesti menulis mengikut nada yang betul. Sebagai contoh, jika anda diminta untuk mendapatkan nasihat, nasihatkan dengan sewajarnya seperti menggunakan frasa yang sesuai seperti:-

i. kalau saya jadi awak...
ii. Jika saya berada di tempat awak..
iii. Pada pendapat saya..
iv. Saya rasa awak patut..

4. Language ( 5 marks)

The language criterion refers to the language aspect of your writing in term of your grammar and vocabulary. For the grammatical aspect, be careful with the nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.

Kriteria language merujuk kepada aspek bahasa penulisan anda dari segi tatabahasa dan perbendaharaan kata anda.

Untuk aspek tatabahasa, berhati-hati dengan kata nama, kata kerja, kata adjektif dan kata keterangan.

These samples are based on the SPM 2025 trial questions. Hopefully they can be used as references for your preparation.
