⚛️ India’s First Dedicated Medical Isotope Reactor

The Department of Atomic Energy will build a nuclear reactor in Visakhapatnam under a PPP model, operational in ~4–5 years. It will be India’s first facility solely for medical isotope production, vital for cancer care.

- Lowers treatment costs, boosts access
- Positions India as a global isotope supplier

- Tc-99m / Mo-99 → Diagnostic scans (heart, bone, kidney, brain)

- Lu-177 → Targeted therapy for prostate & neuroendocrine cancers

- Sm-153 → Bone cancer pain relief

- Y-90 → Liver cancer therapy
