thinking about what a trans inclusive puberty education would even look like
i learned that my body would go through changes, and that most of those changes would seem weird or gross. i learned it was normal to be uncomfortable with those changes; that discomfort meant nothing, only that i was a normal teenager.
is that kind of puberty education compatible with trusting children about their gender identity, validating their views of their bodies, and enabling them to seek puberty blockers or other appropriate gender affirming treatments?
if we accept that view, and we want to support trans children, then i think we would have to say that there's a certain kind of discomfort in a certain degree that would justify intervention. but read that again- we just built a gate, and it needs a keeper. is there anyone we would trust to decide the difference between angst and dysphoria?
but the alternative, prescribing puberty blockers to every child with any discomfort about the inevitable and necessary changes of adolescence, feels to me like it incentivizes a kind of overreaction.
that last view may come from my own internalization of the way i was taught to view puberty, or maybe even a stigma around the relevant aspects of "detransition." ultimately i don't know the answers to these questions. i don't think they're my questions to answer, even; i think they belong to trans youth, to people who saw their dysphoria at twelve years old more clearly than i ever did; to people navigating (or considering navigating) the current broken system
but i survived that broken system. and it's left me wondering if it ever could have been practical to save me from my first puberty

so, not too long ago, a bunch of activists (greta thunberg would probably be the most "famous" name i guess) boarded a boat and went to help in palestine. deliver humanitarian aid, denounce war&human crimes on the spot, etc
of course, this is an easy way to get killed, so they were relying on the international community to keep an eye on them. the idea being that its harder to kill them if the whole world is looking at them, a daily canary
about 20min ago, the dead man switches began to trigger. pre-recorded videos of activists saying "if you are seeing this, we have been intercepted, kidnapped, and/or killed by israeli or israeli-adjacent forces"
and, if that wasnt a ballsy enough move, the immediately before videos show them __using a palestine flag__ to cover themselves from the unprovoked chemical attack by drones, which is simply incredible
