Sonam and Raja had an arranged marriage on May 11 last month . For their honeymoon, the couple travelled to Meghalaya.

On May 23, both went missing. A massive search operation followed, and on June 2, Raja’s body was discovered in a gorge, brutally hacked to death with an axe. Sonam, however, was nowhere to be found. Theories ran wild. Some believed she too had been killed and her body dumped. Others feared she might have been raped, possibly by tribals, or even trafficked to Bangladesh.

But the truth turned out to be far more chilling, a cold-blooded betrayal. Sonam was found alive and arrested in Ghazipur, UP, along with the men who murdered her husband.

Shockingly, the entire honeymoon trip was her idea, not Raja’s. She lured him to a remote area, where three accomplices, whom she had hired and who had followed them from Madhya Pradesh, lay in wait. Together, they ambushed the couple and butchered Raja. To mislead investigators, they staged the crime scene to suggest Sonam had also been abducted or killed. The police are yet to officially confirm the motive, but early speculation points to a love affair. Sonam was reportedly in a relationship and had been married off against her will. So, she hatched a horrifying plan to eliminate her innocent husband.
