Mandatory Android themed icons

Google introduced themed icons in Android 13, allowing users to match app icon colors with the system theme.

Until now, this feature was optional, and some apps did not provide themed icons.

Now, Google has introduced a new rule requiring developers to allow their app icons to adapt to system colors.

For new developer accounts, this rule takes effect on September 15, 2025, and for existing accounts on October 15, 2025.

Google System Updates – September 2025 Highlights

Google’s September 2025 system updates bring new features across Play Services and Play Store. Highlights include multi-page live document scanning, better timeline location handling, and transit card balance alerts in Japan. Play Store adds improved install notifications, stronger security UI changes, redesigned app pages, and a new Manga section in Comics Hub.
